Tag: L Note: Better layout coming soon! it is my duty I AM PROTECTING YOU Anthony listened to Daphne's . . . proposition. Would that it be so easy to just allow any man to dance with her. As Anthony had touched on before, not many -- if any -- were worthy of her company. Previous events have proved as such where some had the audacity to ask her for a dance when they were in debt, or where their past deeds were less than honorable, or where they sought a wealthy family for their own elevation. Or, plain and simple, they were a rake. No. Anthony would not allow anyone but the best for his dear sister, or any Bridgerton. Now that she was named as the incomparable, all eyes were set to her. Not the mention that he hadn't failed to notice the extra efforts put forth by others to greet him or offer him invitation to their homes, sporting events, and the like.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ That was perhaps, before they realized the difficulty posed in trying to get through Anthony to Daphne. He was not one so easily moved. Particularly when it came to his family and their well being. "Why would you wish to dance with someone who would be otherwise deemed as dishonorable?" He questioned. Why, would she risk such a thing? But . . . alas. Anthony knew that there was a need for compromise. One dance, did not mean she would marry the man. And if it meant she would be less . . . opposed to his interference, then perhaps it was for the best. Contrary to what one may believe, he did not enjoy quarrelling with his sister -- and mother -- about such matters. "Very well," he finally said in agreement.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "I agree to your terms." He would simply have to keep a very watchful eye on her. "I will attempt to be more lenient in my judgement, but there are many that conceal their true nature and misdeeds. Should I see you with any of them, even if they appear a perfect gentleman, I will intervene." Because most men appeared the 'perfect' gentleman. Which was why Anthony had made it a point to know of their business and any relevant detail about them. Well, most of them. He could not account for everyone in the ton.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "I do not enjoy being at odds with you or mother about such matters," he told her, wanting her to understand that he did this not because he wanted the conflict. But because, of how deeply he cared for her. "But I take this responsibility with the utmost seriousness. It is about your future Daff, and I want nothing but the best for you." She would -- presumably -- be the first to marry and there was a great deal of pressures that came for that. Including, her needing to set the standard and path for all future unions for the rest of the Bridgertons, mainly their sisters.

i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony politely smiled at his response, as Lewis answered that he enjoyed the company of any man of science. People where Anthony supposed Lewis needed to have that commonality with to help ease the flow of conversation. "Then I fear I must be a disappointment," Anthony said a bit jokingly, though not without some truth to his words. While he was a well educated individual, expected of any nobleman, he was not overly involved in the sciences.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Finally setting sights on the requested male, Anthony politely asked him for a moment, and made introduction between Lewis and Sir Peel. Though as expected of any host, Anthony was unable to remain a part of the conversation for long. "Enjoy the rest of your evening," he told both men, before making his way back into the crowd and mingling with the other invited guests.

Tag: ali Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony was rather unsure about this entire . . . arrangement. It was no secret that the eldest Bridgerton was rather protective -- to say the least -- over each and every one of his siblings. Benedict was no exception, and so now learning of this engagement that he had with a . . . maid, certainly raised a lot of questions. A woman who worked in their household who now, would be joining the family. Yes. Anthony was very uncertain indeed. Conversations full of concern with his mother had followed the announcement, as did conversations with Benedict.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ But in the end, it seemed that they would be going forward with it. Flashes of Colin and Marina filled Anthony's mind and in the end . . . she had only sought to use his brother for security and trap him into fatherhood. Fears of using his other brother was set in his mind now. Was she with child? Did she seek only to elevate her rank? The entire match was very, imbalanced so it would seem. And yet . . . there was a claim to love.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ It had been perhaps what won over his mother as well as her knowledge of Sophie. And Anthony knew of love, having married Kate because of it as well. He had nothing against Sophie. She served them well, his sisters adored her . . . it was now that there was such a personal relationship with his brother, that raised too many questions in the Viscount's mind. But he had been rather silent on the matter in group conversations -- for the time being. Even now, when the room filled with conversation among the family, he did not overly contributed. It was not until she said his name and asked him for a private conversation did he slightly raise his chin.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ The room fell quiet for a moment. Well, he could certainly credit her with courage, for not everyone would seek a private conversation with the Viscount knowing how he was. He eyes briefly went to Benedict for a quick moment, fairly certain that there was a silent plea there and he could practically feel his mother's eyes upon him too. As well as a subtle warning look from Kate. But still, he remained stoic, giving a short nod of his head as he rose to his feet. "Let us go to the study." He led them out of the room and towards the study where he allowed her to enter first before following. Apart from his desk, the other side of the room had a couple comfortable chairs with a small table in between.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ He did not however close the doors. He left them open for her own comfort and to remain proper. Although, he did expect that no one would be on the other end, so he ensured that as he sat, his line of sight was able to easily see the ajar doors. He knew he already perhaps brought her to a space of . . . less ease than the familiar comfort of a casual sitting room.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ This was his study -- having once belonged to his father -- and previously, she had no reason to be in here before. Until now. "What is it you would like to speak about Ms. Beckett?" As a maid, she was Sophie but now that position had changed, so he felt the need to use a more . . . formal name. Also, allowing her to take the lead in this conversation. Certainly he had much to say, but it would be impolite to attempt to dominate the conversation when she had so bravely asked for one.

Tag: @colin Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Hearing Colin's response only fueled Anthony's suspicions. His younger brother was most certainly up to something. "Wiser, has yet to be determined," he said teasingly towards Colin. Yes. He knew it was true. His brother was older, and much wiser as was to be expected. And despite Anthony perhaps not saying it enough . . . he was proud of him. Proud of the man that he was growing up to be. Really, he was proud of most all of his siblings even if the words did not often leave his thoughts.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "I shall leave you to your, wisdom then," Anthony told him, the word said with teasing sarcasm as Anthony returned to his study to resume his work. It was here that he heard Colin yell out to him, asking what time it was and that he could not find his watch. Anthony naturally reached for his pocket watch, remembering exactly where he had left it. The item was so near and dear to the Viscount's heart, that he guarded it with his life.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ So when he reached for something that was not there, he froze. Panic began to set in. His hands scrambled desperately over his papers on the desk, tossing some to the side as he searched every inch of it for the cherished possession. That, was when he heard footsteps racing out the door. Anthony froze, taking in a deep breath as a look of displeasure formed on his features.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "Colin!" He demanded. When there was no response, he knew what this was leading to. Stepping out into the hallway, he saw a servant passing by. "Where did he go?" Anthony asked, wondering if he went out through the front or towards the garden. The servant pointed Anthony in the direction that the third son had sped off into and Anthony walked with haste after him. When reaching the gardens, he stopped walking for a moment, scanning his surroundings.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "Colin Bridgerton!" He called out to him. Wherever he was, he had a strong feeling that Colin could hear him. "Return my property or next time I will come out with a musket!" Of course, he wouldn't really and he knew that Colin was well aware of that. Still. He had to make his displeasure known! And at the same time, it was no surprise that his brother had done something so . . . mischievous. That was in the very nature of Colin Bridgerton.

i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony had been working late in his study, time escaping him which was not an entirely rare circumstance. When his tired state interfered with his ability to read any more words on the paper . . . he decided to call it a night. With one final yawn, he blew the candle to his study and made his way into the hall, though paused when he saw the drawing room door ajar and a faint light coming from him. Curiosity got the best of him and he went towards it, quietly pushing open the door to see his dear sister having fallen asleep. A soft smile formed on the Viscount's lips at the sight of Eloise so peaceful. His might went back to memories of his siblings when they were much younger, and how he would sometimes carry them to bed when they were half asleep.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ It seemed like both a lifetime ago, and yet just as if it were yesterday. Not wishing to wake her, Anthony instead decided to make her more comfortable, moving to get the blanket which he carefully placed on her. He was about to walk away when he saw her stir, his body immediately freezing so not to further draw her back to consciousness. But it seemed too late for that. She abruptly awoke, blowing out the candle and greeting him. "A good and very early morning to you too," he greeted in return before she asked him what time it was . . . before explaining the reason for her ink stained fingers. "Must have been a very important letter," he told her a bit teasingly. "It is four in the morning," he revealed. "I did not mean to wake you," he added on, apology in his voice.

Tag: lennie2 Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU The very idea of Whistledown exposing herself was . . . interesting. Revealing her identity of her own terms to, perhaps have some control over the situation. And hope, that her revealing herself would help ease the repercussions of her columns. "Then she should do it sooner rather than later," Anthony stated. "For the longer she runs this column, the more people grow both curious and displeased." Some of them anyway. The ones that she targeted in her gossip. Surely, someone would wish to find out who Whistledown was and set their efforts to reveal her. He paused for a moment.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "That is, suggesting she would even consider exposing herself at this point. I suppose it remains to be seen." The dance was starting to come to an end, and Anthony had just realized the extent to which they had been talking about Whistledown. "Of all the women I thought to be speaking to you about, Whistledown was not one of them," he said jokingly, though clearly, was not against any conversation with her. Her ties to members of his family made her company most welcome.

Tag: lennie1 Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Agreeing to the offer of warm milk, Anthony nodded, knowing that that was often a tradition each Bridgerton sibling had when they were younger. His father had started it with him, giving the eldest son a glass of warm milk any time he found sleep difficult to succumb to. The tradition carried on as Anthony did it for his younger siblings, yet another fond memory of Edmund. While it seemed like such a common occurrence, the benefits of it well known . . . Anthony still regarded it as a tradition set forth by his father. And traditions like that, would not change.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ When she asked him if he would stay, he smiled at her, not holding a single doubt in his answer. Despite the intense focus he had in his work -- albeit momentarily distracted from it -- his siblings always took priority. Hyacinth would always take priority. "Of course," he assured her. "I promise you, I will not leave until I am certain you are asleep." The fact that his presence comforted her and would hopefully help lull her to sleep, touched him.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ The role of a father figure was strongest in his bond with Hyacinth and he only wished that she had the privilege of having a true father. "Come, let's get you back into bed," he told her, offering his hand for her to take. "Is there any particular story you'd like to hear tonight?" He further offered. Whether it was the telling of a story, silent company, or simple conversation . . . he would keep true to his promise, and remain with her until she found the comfort of sleep.

i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU 39. My muse is kidnapped and yours has to pay the ransom.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ It had been quite an ambush. Word of Anthony returning to his country estate was not secret knowledge. It was news that spread as much as any departure of a nobleman would. But it would seem, that the wrong group of a handful of men caught wind of it . . . and decided to act upon it. For on his way, Anthony had suddenly become surrounded by four other men, armed with muskets and daggers. Anthony, obviously aware that the odds were not in his favour and held no weapon of his own . . . gave in.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ It was mere moments after that he was consumed with darkness and the next time he opened his eyes . . . the blackness remained. Well, partially. He had a bag over his head and his hands were tied tightly behind him over a chair. His feet were also bound and he attempted to fight the rope but to no avail. He could taste blood in his mouth and felt throbbing in his head and jaw. Most likely from where they had hit him until he was unconscious. This, was how Anthony Bridgerton remained for the next couple or so days. He was losing track of time.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Fear was a natural result, but it only intensified when the day came where he heard one of them say "The one we demanded, she is bringing the required amount." That was when Anthony felt true fear and panic as he pulled against the binds, only causing the rope to further dig into his swollen wrists, but he could not help it. He assumed that they were keeping him here for ransom, and the bag over his head meant that they did not initially plan to kill him. But still. Hearing that they had involved his family . . . and clearly demanded a specific one of them come, made him more afraid than ever before as it was not his life he now worried about.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ It was hers. Whoever she was. It could be his mother, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca . . . they would dare not demand Hyacinth to be the one to bring it. It did not matter. Anthony yelled in anger at them, demanding that they not harm her and that they would not get away with this. His voice was hoarse from the lack of drink and food, and this not being the first time he had used his voice, but adrenaline pumped through his veins, fearful of what this meant. But it was not long after that the men returned to where they were keeping him; telling him that should he try anything, they would kill him and his sister.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Sister. They made the demand of one of his sisters. How positively vile of them. But Anthony did not argue. The rope was cut from his ankles and wrists, the instant relief felt but his wrists were almost immediately replaced with more rope. He could feel the barrel of a musket pressed at his back, the sack remaining over his head, his heart beating so rapidly in his chest that he felt it was going to burst, as he was being pushed towards an unknown destination where the exchange would take place.

Tag: authorflies Note: Better layout coming soon! Sorry Eloise!! Good luck with this one!! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU 4. My muse is completely drunk and incoherent.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ There were a couple of things about Anthony Bridgerton that perhaps many people -- if any people -- didn't know. The first, was that he had a crippling fear of two things: bees and death. The two existed simultaneously in his mind. Of course he was no fool either; he knew that death was one of the only guarantees in life. An inevitable fate that everyone met. What he was terrified of . . . was an early death. Just like his father and his uncle. Now the two went hand in hand because, bees. Bees were a death sentence after what had happened to his father. The second thing about Anthony was that he never got drunk. Ever. Perhaps the last time he had was when he was at Oxford and even then, it had been in the company of a trust friend, now brother in law. Otherwise, Anthony could not afford to risk his reputation nor image by indulging in such things that would compromise his behaviour. Today however, was an exception.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ It had started with a stroll in the park, enjoying the company of a few friends. When he had parted ways with them to head home . . . that is when it happened. A bee. Landed on him. And Anthony . . . had panicked -- though perhaps that word was an understatement. The only saving grace was that there was no audience around to witness his episode. Not that he would have noticed for in that moment, every ounce of rationality and care for appearance vanished. Left only was sheer panic as he flailed about, full of trepidation. The bee did not touch him fortunately, but that mattered little. The event had opened something up deep within Anthony. Suppressed feelings that he had long since locked away. Healthy? Not at all. He knew it accounted for his behaviour, for the way he now was. And this bee . . . had brought it all to the surface. Opened a floodgate of emotions that Anthony had long since locked up since that horrid day when he was eighteen years old.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ He needed to numb them; the emotions. It was too much and he could not afford to let himself be consumed by them; to be directed by them. He was a Viscount and he had a responsibility to his family to be responsible. He had the expectations of an heir. He . . . needed to lock these emotions back up, unaware that this, was his deep seated trauma threatening to unleash itself. He could not return home to his family's estate like this, so he did the next thing he could. He went to drink. And drink. And drink. And . . . that was how he had spent the next several hours. It was very uncharacteristic behaviour indeed but he felt . . . lost. More lost than ever before. And all the pain from a decade ago, from recent events of parting with Siena, from his responsibilities to his family . . . came out. And it had all started with a bee. A damn bee.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Eventually, he returned home, refusing anyone to accompany him. Stumbling into the door, he tried to keep quiet though in his attempt, perhaps he was making even more noise. Hopefully, at this late hour everyone would be asleep. Closing the door behind him, he attempted to tiptoe a little through the hall, though his balance was compromised and it caused him to stumble, and collide into a small table that held a vase which tipped over. He clumsily snatched the flowers before they fell and let the vase instead shatter to the floor. Logic dictated he saved the wrong thing. Looking up to see Eloise, he clutched the stems of the flowers in his hand and held them up. "I flowers the saved!" He announced proudly. Pausing, he shook his head for a moment and then chuckled at his words. "Or . . . something like that," he added on, clearly uncaring at his slurred and incoherent words.

Tag: bunny Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Henry remaked on how Violet and Edmund were indeed the picture of romance and . . . yes. They had been. Thus far, those who married -- Daphne and then of course Anthony himself -- had both followed in their parents' footsteps and married for love. It was not always the case, but for them, it had been. So Anthony knew that to be true and, well, it was obvious now that Granville's arrangement was quite different. But before Anthony could say anything on the subject, Henry spoke of . . . marrying his brother. It caused the Viscount to freeze, falling quiet in the surprise of his statement and knowing that said surprise, was evident in the way Anthony's eyes ever so slightly widened, lips slightly parted.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ This, was worse than he had thought. They were in love. They were serious. Henry had assured him previously that it was not just a casual relation but now . . . seeing the extent of it, was even more concerning to the heir. He could not find the words to speak in this moment and instead, just remained quiet . . . trying to determine what he could possibly say. It did not change his mind in the slightest. If anything, it only further reinforced the need to end this relationship because the two men could never be married. It was an impossibility. Upon hearing him state that Benedict knew his duty to society, Anthony finally found his voice . . . though there was still the politeness of allowing Henry to finish making his point. Ironic. Considering the objective of this conversation.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "Does he?" Anthony asked in return. "He has not stated his intention to find a wife, nor has he show any interest." Anthony had suspected Benedict found someone -- much like Anthony had been distracted with Siena in the past -- but this someone was not who Benedict expected. "You speak of wanting to marry him. You speak of Benedict finding a wife who is, comfortable and accepting of this circumstance. Yet, do either of you consider how . . . idealistic and unrealistic this can be?" Anthony's social circles clearly differed from Henry's but he couldn't imagine that many in Henry's position were fortunate enough to have a wife who was as supportive of his . . . lifestyle and preferences.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "You speak of you two being in love--" Anthony wasn't even sure he had properly processed this even still. "Yet that in itself is the very problem, for I doubt Benedict will marry another so long as he is with you." Though, Benedict was with a married man, he imagined it was quite different should they both be married. How would that even work? "Not to mention the constant threat of discovery. It is not just Benedict's reputation at stake. It is my entire family's." There was a bigger picture here and Anthony needed to bring the situation back to reality. To their reality. Granville spoke of his love for Benedict and it seemed that love, went both ways. Anthony's gaze fell for a moment, though his position unwavering.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "I sympathize with your position Mr. Granville," Anthony said sincerely. He may not understand it for he was not of the same mind nor desires for men . . . but the way he spoke of love, and being in love, anyone who felt as such could sympathize. "But do not put his life on hold in the hope of finding a rare circumstance like the one you have. Especially when I doubt he will even open his mind to marrying another." Anthony had seen Benedict's clear disinterest. His, lack of effort to court any other woman.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "That may be," the Viscount continued as Granville told him he was asking him to do a horrid thing. "But Benedict still has a chance at a life of happiness. And the sooner both of you part ways, the sooner you can heal from this and find someone better suited to your life." Not Benedict though. This arrangement would not last; there was too much risk and Anthony was far too protective over his brother to simply allow this to happen. The heir remained silent once more as Henry seemed to consider his words. A raising hope as he continued and then . . . Anthony felt a wave of relief wash over him, exhaling a breath he had not even known he was holding.
"I will... end it." That was all the Viscount needed to hear to be assured. To know that he did not have to push harder, to fight harder. "I am sorry that it came to this," he told him. "But it is the right, and honorable thing to do." For the sake of his brother. Anthony was well aware that he was using that love to convince Henry but Anthony too had once learned that perhaps the best thing you do if you loved someone . . . was to let them go. The relief that Anthony felt, was also due to Henry's confirmation that Benedict still favoured women too. How, Anthony did not understand. But it just reinforced his position and belief, that Benedict could move on from this affair and find a woman that he could freely be with, without any risk or scandal attached.

Tag: bunny Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Hearing Henry take some responsibility for what occurred, slowly began to calm the raging anger in Anthony. He knew his brother was far from innocent in all this, but Anthony was already sensitive to any talk of any of his siblings. What Granville said though was indeed true. They should have been more careful indeed. It was fortunate -- and that was not a word he would usually use in such a circumstance -- that it had been Anthony and not anyone else who had stumbled upon them. But Granville most probably already recognized that, so there was no need for him to say it. Instead, he let silence fill the room as Henry went to get a drink, and brought one for Anthony as well. Anthony nodded in gratitude, immediately taking a sip of it and grateful for something to hold in his hand apart from potentially clenching his fists.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖
He then listened to Granville explain his . . . relationship with his wife. It sounded like such an odd arrangement. But, he supposed at the same time not surprising considering it was not women that Granville was interested in. What disappointed Anthony the most . . . was that Benedict was a part of this. That he was contributing to this, bizarre arrangement and the unfaithfulness. It also had Anthony believe . . . that this was no, casual affair. If Benedict risked his own reputation to such an extent, then it was far more serious than Anthony ever wanted to consider. But then, perhaps he did not know his brother as well as he thought he did. His mind returned to Granville's words, speaking of this mutual understanding and acceptance he and Lucy had. "I can not say I, understand this arrangement. For I believe only one who is in your position can hope to comprehend the, complexity of your marriage and relationship with your wife." Anthony withheld judgement from his tone. The bitterness and anger seemed to have de-escalated from previously which was all good and well.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖
For Anthony did not come here to fight. He had no desire to turn this into a physical altercation. He took another sip of his drink as Granville spoke of men like him. Did that include men like his brother too? But then Granville was asking him to consider that Benedict was happy with him. And that he may still yet find a wife . . . that Granville would not stop him from that happiness. Anthony looked towards the artist, wanting him to understand something. "You already are stopping him," he pointed out. His tone was not aggressive but still held that stoic, firm tone. "I may not know many things about my brother, but I know he would not risk so much if he was not . . . attached." That was the best word he could use to describe this.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖
"Do you truly see this as your future? To be married to a woman and then have another on the side?" Is this how he lived his life? "I do not judge your lifestyle nor choices Granville, but I will not let you put my brother's life on hold when you can not offer him a proper one." Anthony knew this was getting into sensitive territory but it was why he had come after all. "A life of secrecy and late night affairs, always at risk of exposure and damaging reputations." Anthony did not have just himself to consider, but his entire family. If this got out, it would ruin his sisters' hope of finding a suitable match. "If you truly care for him and wish him happiness, then you surely must know that this is no life for him." Anthony took another sip of his drink and rose to his feet, approaching Henry. "I am asking you Mr. Granville, to let my brother go." Because he was unsure as to whether Benedict would be able to make that decision with how he was acting as of late, especially with his liberal and idealistic notions.
