There had been many nights where Sophie had dreamt something like this. In her dreams she saw something like this, somehow in some way being pulled from her life by the masked man she had danced with and lead by hand, gently into his. For so long she had brushed it off as nothing but a fantasy, and it was, but reality, though she had suffered years of hardship was far more beautiful than any dream she had found- Benedict Bridgerton had been. Never could she have imagined that they would have come back together like they had, nor had she imagined that when they did and when he knew who she was, he would marry her. He wanted her to and in no time at all she would be his wife. As if that was not enough, she now had her own clothes and more being made in preparation for the wedding, her own room, things that belonged to her- and further her own wedding to plan. Things were getting stranger and stranger. That being said, there certainly were nervous moments- This evening being one of them. As much as she loved Hyacinth and Eloise, as well as Lady Bridgerton, she had not had much of an interaction with any of the other Bridgerton siblings. There were going to be questions raised about her and she was not so sure what they would think on her status or lack of a dowry, but with Benedict's hand holding hers she felt just a little more confident. At least when it came to all but the oldest Bridgerton. Where she was certain that she had made a good impression on Violet, she was hoping to do the same for Anthony and that... well she was not sure that thus was accomplished just yet. As nervous as she was, it might have to be a personal conversation between the pair of them.
Bringing Benedict's lips to her hand and squeezing it tight before letting go, she smiled kindly at the oldest brother, hoping her nerves did not fully show in her eyes. "Viscount Bridgerton? Might I take you away from the talk briefly before dinner to have a word?"

She hates this, more than anything else in the world, but it is not something that she found too surprising. Far more often than she dared to admit, her mind wandered back to those days when she worked for her stepmother, the horrid treatment she received when under her supposed care. Sometimes it didn’t take something setting it off for her mind to wander. She just felt guilty that it had been here, in a place that was far from her home and worse than that in a stranger's home. Sophie swallowed slightly, looking around the room as though that might calm her, knowing further that she was not back there. Moss green eyes were filled with tears and her breathing was labored as she sat up in bed, trying to get a grip for her surroundings and soothe herself, not wanting to wake anyone else, but thus proved to be ineffective as she heard Henry’s voice, Sophie swallowing just a little, trying to think on what to say, finding herself both thankful and not that it was Henry who had woken up and not Benedict. Her head looked down to the ground, trying to avoid his gaze though she was sure he couldn’t quite see her in the dark. “I am quite alright. It was simply a bad dream based on some sour memories is all. My apologies for waking you.” The fact that he was reacting so kindly despite the fact that she woke him up was bizarre to say the least, but she found herself thankful still. Taking a moment before looking where she felt the bed sink, she let the softest of smiles graced her lips, hoping that it was not clear how forced that it was. “If you wish to return to bed I will continue to be fine, though getting up, walking around, and drinking a quick cup of tea sounds lovely.” Tag : ~bunny~

Sophie should have felt extremely , having been to many parties like she assumed this one could possibly be and she had seen many things in her life, though she could not find it within herself to be. This wasn’t like those parties. She did not have Benedict there at those affairs and further she would not be working. She was in one of the finer gowns that Lady Bridgerton had passed down from her daughter’s, dressed to the best of her ability, though it mattered little. What mattered to her was that this was something that was important to Benedict and so this was something that was important to her. That and the idea of being at this party as a couple… It was like the masked ball three years ago once more, only something about it seemed more real. There was no hiding now, not there. And that was wonderful. If she would not have been concerned with anyone who might have been passing by, Sophie is sure that she would have been skipping, but she settled for toying with Benedict’s feelings as they walked, making small comments about things that she noticed as they walked by only to fall silent as they reached the door. She responded to the squeeze with a smile, squeezing his hand back before looking to the door. The woman who opened it was greeted with a polite bow of her head and the gentlest of smiles, letting Benedict lead the way as she took a look around the home. The guests, the rooms, looking out for what Benedict had told her about prior to their attendance. Out of all the parties she had served for this was by far the most lively. So many things were happening at one time, too many- Sophie hardly able to keep track of them all. In one room people were painting, in others well… doors were being shut so she could hardly catch a glimpse of what was going on. It was only as Benedict spoke that her gaze tore away from the wall and looked ahead instead at the host. The same greeting that she had given the woman at the door was given to him, a smile and a polite nod. It was not until she had smiled at Benedict, though, squeezing his hand in silent reassurance that she was alright. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Lord Granville.” It was better to remain formal, at least for now, not wanting to push her extended invitation too much, wanting the friends to talk before she said too much. There was something that was soothing about watching her husband work. Everything inside of him seemed to untense and focus and the pieces he created never failed to awe her. She felt as though she could just sit and watch him until whichever piece he was working on was complete. On top of watching him create, partake in one of his interests, she also got to be with him. Moments like that she loved more than anything in the world. Her smile grew slightly as he reached to grab her hand and kissed it, moving closer in response, fingers tracing oh so gentle circles on him where her arm rested, her hand that held his holding it just a little tighter. “It is quite alright. I do not intend on pulling you away. Not yet at least.” If it got later then perhaps she would, wanting to ensure that he got some rest, but right now she simply wanted to watch, to be near him. Leaning close, Sophie pressed the softest of kisses to his head and then his cheek before looking back to the painting in front of them . “Do not let me distract you. I shall leave if you want to be alone. I simply found myself wanting company.” She hummed, looking him in the eyes. “Which commission are you working on? Would you like an extra set of eyes?”

It was almost as though they were caught in a circle, the pair of them- a waltz that never quite seemed to end. Everywhere she turned or went, Benedict Bridgerton seemed to be there- be it when Sophie was trying to assist the upstairs maids in cleaning the rooms, her would be sitting in there with his sketchbook, or she would be called to have tea with Lady Violet and her daughters and Benedict would be there lounging in a chair with a novel. Sometimes he would even be rounding the opposite corner when she was moving by with the laundry. Nothing was more maddening than catching his gaze and only thinking back to the days at My Cabin or the evening they shared the night they met, their discussion prior about her becoming his mistress and her denial of it, and, almost above all of that, the truth that Benedict did not yet know- who she was. Nothing could possibly be more maddening that watching him and being lost in what if's- Would he turn his back on her if he found out? Would he insist that she become his mistress? Would he have her fired? Had his feelings, or what she was assuming were his feelings, changed since she had rejected his Sophie did not know and she was not sure she wanted to take a chance to find out. Instead she was going to drown herself in work, hope that either the pair of them would discuss their emotions and meet some agreement or until she felt she had worked long enough for it to be respectful to retire. Work became a distraction and something that she tried to use to avoid thinking on all that she was worried about along with what she got paid with and it was what she tried to drown herself in it. Thus far, her chores for the day had been completed thoroughly and to her relief and disappointment she had yet to see Benedict. That, of course, only meant that it was a matter of time until she did, but Sophie worked on, thinking now on what she would say to him should she encounter the lord. Sure enough, he was there, sitting in drawing room, sketchbook in hand. After closing the door, her greeting was simple, a small "Good afternoon Mister Bridgerton." Before turning back to dust, then collecting Eloise's missing notebook and Hyacinth's bow as well as of the other things that she could find that the daughters must had left behind, then turning to the door once again. ...But it wouldn't open. At first she assumed that the door was simply not opening because she had a poor grip on it, but after trying to shift the items in her hand and try again but to no avail. Sighing slightly and moving to set her items down she tried again and was only met with the same result. Oh heavens… had she done something previously to the door when she closed it? Certainly it must be able to open in some way… Turning to the man in the room, she smiled softly, apology in her eyes. “I believe we might be locked in.” Part of her wanted to ask if he might be able to try it out, but she did not want to take him from his art. “Would there happen to be a way to open it from this side?” Tag ~ Benedict Bridgerton ~

It was a strange feeling that stirred inside of her stomach. It was never something that she expected to have the courage to do, defying her stepmother’s wishes, even borrowing the woman’s shoes to be here. Her hair was done and powdered, her fingers covered in fine gloves. All of it felt like some game of dress-up, or rather a dream. Like a dream, though, none of it would last, that being the one thing that was a certainty. For three hours she would smile, she would talk, she would have delicious food and fine liquor and pretend to be of noble raising and birth. More important than that, though was despite the mask, enjoying a night both for herself and being herself and while she was dressed in clothes that she was sure after this night she would never wear again, she intended to make true on thus, leaving in the carriage the servants had arranged as quickly as she could manage. She was not quite prepared for the anxious feeling that had all too suddenly stirred in her stomach, one that was both nervous and excited at the very same time. She was going to be arriving late, which, of course posed the risk Araminta catching her, but Sophie held faith that she wouldn't, certain that she did not look like herself after all, save for her eyes and face, though most of that would be covered by the mask that was tied around her head. ...It would all be fine. There was nothing to suspect her of and one to expect to see her here. She just needed to swallow, find the courage inside of her stomach and step inside. Sophie forced her shoulders to relax as she moved slowly inside, eyes staring out, ahead instead of at anyone, hoping that they weren't looking at her and if they were that they weren't trying to figure out whose family she had come from. Hearing the music swell, though bit by bit, most of her nerves flew away, her shoulders relaxed, and Sophie Beckett smiled. Hands resting to her skirts, she moved slowly inside instead of standing at the entrance, deciding to first make her way around the room taking in the scene with wonder and awe, only pausing when she had reached the opposite end of the room to take it all in, think on what to do now that she actually was here. Grabbing a glass from a server passing by with a small thank you, Sophie looked out at the scene once more this time, locking eyes with a man who was walking in her direction. She greeted him with a smile, but not words, not wanting to speak too loudly in case he was not approaching her and she was mistaken. Still, whether, it be her talking to the man or to herself, she could not stop herself from speaking the only words echoing through her head. "I do not believe I have ever seen a scene as lively and wonderful as this." Tag ~Benedict Bridgerton ~

It was something that she was not certain that she would ever find not surprising. The Bridgerton's. They were like everything that one might have read in a book, but there was so much more to them. They were kind, intelligent, and each one an individual and proud of it. Sometimes they disagreed, yes, but it always ended in then coming together again. There was never shouting or any severe aggression. It all worked each other out. More than that the fact that they accepted her was beyond her and always surprising whenever she conversed with any of them or, as they had tonight, gathered for one reason or another. Tonight had been a gathering to celebrate Lady Bridgerton's birthday, during which she felt part of them and it was something that stretched beyond their wedding vows. Benedict was reassuring there, but the entire family wiped those thoughts from her mind. And bit by bit, she certainly felt more and more like one of them. Beyond anything material, any jewelry or fine fabric would come as a second gift compared to this family, to Benedict.
That being said, she was quite eager to be with just him, still feeling as though she was in the blissful state of being newly married. Anytime spent with him be it with his - their family or alone was more than she could have asked for. Hence, there was a grin on her face, moving fast to the carriage waiting to return them home, his hand held tightly, almost pulling him inside.
"You embarrassed me this evening." Her words said with the softest of smiles, or rather a smirk, small, trying to hide it, but the act did not last long, broken by her laughter, moving to sit by his side at the carriage took off, reaching for his hand. He never could embarrass her, not truly. He could cause her to fluster, feel butterflies in her chest, and case her cheeks to turn the color of cherries, but not mortify her. All she wanted was to make make him smile or laugh. Perhaps both. Moving a little, Sophie took his hand, squeezing it tight and bringing it to her lips, relaxing, overjoyed and more at ease than she had ever been in her life, the feeling only growing with time. She both hoped and knew that the feeling would continue and grow through out there lives.
