I'm not bound by Well, this was incredibly awkward. But, he had to give her some credit for making the effort to speak to him after being . . . caught in the position that she was. And his brother. A scarring mental image indeed. One that Benedict wished he could burn from his mind, but felt it would quite possibly be scarred there for some time. Still averting his eyes from her -- the struggle to maintain eye contact a significant one -- she spoke of regretting him walking in when he did. For . . . interrupting? Though seeming to realize how it sounded, she added on that she was regretful that he saw what he did, that anyone saw it. He remained silent for a moment, knowing that he had to say something in return. Was he angry? Perhaps that was not the best word to describe his certain state. Benedict did not get genuinely angry often.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "But not that it happened," he both asked and stated at the same time. "That you and my brother . . . " He couldn't even finish the sentence, inwardly cringing at the sight for he never wanted to have seen it. Though could not help but wonder that if he had not . . . what would have come of it? Not in regards to the actual coupling, but more so, the aftermath of it. But he was quite aware of the fact that she was expressing regret for getting caught -- by him -- but not for actually engaging in such relations with Anthony.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "Was that the, first time . . . " They kissed? Undressed? Engaged in such relations? Any of those things. Benedict was unable to finish the sentence, but he hoped she understood. He trusted his brother, but at the same time . . . was hurt. Yes. Perhaps that was the more accurate way to describe how he was feeling. Hurt. That they would hide this from him instead of coming to him and just telling him that they had affections for one another.

I'm not bound by Colin's question regarding Whistledown was indeed a simple one he supposed, for it was clear that the Bridgerton brothers paid far less attention to her scribbling than the sisters. "Not at all," he told him, Colin's tone suggesting that he too perhaps shared Benedict's opinion on the matter. "Though our sisters, like most of the ton, seem to hang on her every word." Especially Eloise. Benedict knew from his conversation with her, that it seemed she even admired Lady Whistledown.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "Though I will say, she has certainly made this season in London far more, interesting than past others." Which, wasn't necessarily a good thing he supposed. Scandal columns were nothing new. This one however, certainly was not lacking in detail. Benedict chuckled at Colin's next words of mimicking Anthony's brooding glares to see if that would work in taking him seriously. "You may be capable of many things dear Brother," Benedict began to say.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "But serving murderous glares I do not believe is one of them." His voice teasing, though was not entirely untrue. "Though if you would like to practice on me, by all means feel free." Oh now that could certainly be entertaining indeed. Benedict knew that in this particular situation regarding Marina, Colin was indeed serious. But, what kind of older brother would he be if he did not tease the third son.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ When Colin spoke of being madly in love, Benedict smiled at him, not having ever seen his brother this way indeed. Flirtation was a far cry from courting with the intent to marry. "Now that, I dare not even attempt to speculate," he said with continued teasing. It was something that Benedict could not quite relate to, not having been in love himself. So the feeling was rather foreign and unfamiliar to the second son.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ But if it made Colin feel happy in his heart, then Benedict in turn was happy for his brother. He felt a further sense of relief when Colin assured him that he would tell him before he left. "Thank you," Benedict told him gratefully. "I hope it does not come to that, but should it, I am grateful for your promise." That he would come to him and just let him know when he would depart, and for how long. It would at least ease Benedict's mind to know that his brother would be safe.

I'm not bound by Benedict felt the familiar and yet foreign touch of Henry's hand upon his cheek. Familiar, where he'd once felt it before but foreign . . . as it had certainly felt like an eternity. Benedict knew he was selfishly basking in the comfort it inevitably offered, even now after so much time apart. But Benedict could not pull himself away from it. Not yet anyway, for he wanted to prolong the moment . . . even if it was just for a few seconds longer.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ The younger male slowly nodded when Henry spoke of coming to his studio later in the week. Benedict had no plans of remaining in the city, having every intention of returning to My Cabin after the event was done. But his plans changed, and he would need time to process all this. To process not only Henry's return, but also what he said to him. He did not want to be a silent fool when Henry was making time to meet with him. When . . . Henry was making an effort. "Perhaps in 3 days time?" He asked, figuring it may be enough time to pass, but not too much.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ Slowly opening his eyes and trying to force himself back into reality, Benedict take a small step back, reminding himself of that one point in time where he'd lacked the self control. And in turn, compromised them. While he knew this was different, he also knew he needed to step back. Even if it was not what his heart desired. Swallowing, he took a slow breath, creating a bit of space between them and trying to ground himself back into reality, Benedict's eyes meeting Granville's. "If that would be suitable for you?" He finished, leaving the option there, should Henry need more time . . . or less.

I'm not bound by Benedict listened as Lewis' explained that he would visit Sussex, staying at the home of friends who were able to host him when he wished to escape the city. The more that they spoke of it, the more tempting it was for Benedict to head out to My Cabin for some time, especially with recent events and thus, provide him the opportunity to just clear his mind. And heart it would seem.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ It was indeed getting increasingly difficult to escape during London season though fortunately, not as difficult as it was for his eldest brother and sisters. "That is good to hear. For everyone requires a place to clear their mind and be in peaceful solitude. The city truly makes that an impossibility." Whether working or not. Places of peace and quiet were quite limited.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "What activities do you enjoy doing when you are in the country?" Hikes, horse riding . . . Benedict had even collected rocks throughout his childhood and teenage years. A collection he still possessed but not one he had added to in quite some time. An odd thing to collect, but it was more about the memory attached to picking the rock rather than the rock itself. Still. It was not exactly a collection he made known to others. It was hardly anything to boast about, or make note of at all.

I'm not bound by Benedict listened to Henry, taking in every word. Every encouragement. A kind of encouragement that he was unsure he had ever experienced before . . . for it came from someone who understood him in ways that many did not. If any. And so, he found himself continuing to feel flattered, and honored that Henry spoke highly of him, where Benedict failed to offer himself any praise. Though his remark drew a chuckle from the younger male, his words of never living that down holding true. "Our first meeting will perhaps be one of the most embarrassing moments I shall forever remember," he told him honestly, a bit sheepishly, but there was a humour in his tone all the same. And to think, how eagerly he wished to impress Henry now. Where his tongue had been so loose to offer critique over a man as well accomplished as he.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ Locking gaze with the man though caused Benedict's smile to slowly fade, not due to any difference in emotion but rather . . . a deep feeling that stirred within him. One that so often did when in the presence of the man, and one that Benedict did not yet know how to name. How to define. Fortunately, Henry spoke and Benedict once again was able to smile with ease. "This is true," he agreed wholeheartedly. "Makes me feel all the more honored to be the student of such brilliance." Words spoken in earnest for he supposed he could not give enough praise to the man, now that he knew him much better than by a mere painting presented at Somerset. And the thought of seeing him more sounded . . . most appealing. A little too appealing perhaps.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "You make it sound as if that would be a bad thing," Benedict joked when Henry spoke of seeing much more of him. He knew that he had to tease the situation, lest he say anything too revealing of this . . . eagerness he felt over the thought of it. "You have given me such an incredible opportunity. And I would not wish to disappoint you or give cause for you to regret it." He was dedicated, perhaps more than ever. Eloise once suggested to him to hire a drawing master but Benedict was far more fortunate than that. And he would not take this for granted. Standing up, he reached for his coat which came off as he had become more comfortable throughout the evening . . . preparing to make his leave. As he always did when he was the last one present.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ But he paused when Henry suggested having a drink with him. Benedict just stared at him for a moment, the thought a tempting one but . . . he also knew that art was the excuse he used to visit Henry, and remain in his company. And yes, it was perhaps true that he often fled once that portion of the evening was over. For reasons that he still did not fully comprehend, but all of them were certainly not because he did not wish to be in the artist's company. He knew he could easily come up with an excuse of how he would need to return home, how his family was expecting him . . . but instead, he set down his coat, making no move to put it on. "I'm not -- " He began to say, trying to figure out how to phrase it politely, and truthfully. "I mean, I do not intend--" To avoid him. Giving up on what he was even trying to say, he made his way to the chair near Henry and seated himself.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "I would merely have thought you'd grow sick of my presence, after overstaying my welcome on numerous occasions." He decided to respond with a joke -- somewhat of one. It was better that than try to explain why exactly he left so quickly. For the same reasons he could not help but look at the man longer than he should. Or enjoy the casual touches he offered and feel the immediate deprivation of them when he pulled away. Or reasons that his mind often went to him even when they were not in each other's company. Drinking with him, was either quite a brilliant idea . . . or a dangerous one for the Bridgerton. "You are a most gracious." Generous with his time and resources that he offered and . . . a great deal more. The sentiment strong in Benedict's words and knowing that he would need to restrain emotion from his voice so not to let whatever felt within him, come to surface.

I'm not bound by The abrupt and sudden shift in bed had jolted Benedict to an awakened state, his eyes opening though his body remained laying down. Despite the darkness, he could clearly see his wife had been woken from sleep in a rather alarmed state. The product of a nightmare, no doubt. Benedict's eyes remained on her, the concern for his wife far stronger than the lull of sleep that was drawing him back. She told him that she had not intended to wake him, knowing her well enough that her soft tone was reserved for him . . . to assure him.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ And while he of course appreciated that, he could not find the peace of sleep knowing that she could not. He felt the soft touch of her fingers, his eyes remaining on hers, having sworn he could see them with the glistening of unfallen tears. She shifted on her back, encouraging him to sleep and that she just needed a moment. When her hand moved to his, he brought her to his lips, tenderly kissing the palm of her hand before kissing her wrist. As she shifted closer to him, he did the same, moving close enough so that he could place another light kiss on her shoulder, and then on her cheek, before resting his own cheek against the bed, right next to her, his lips close to her ear. H
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ is hand still held hers, his thumb gently stroking her skin in the entangled fingers. "Do you want to talk about it?" He quietly offered. He had no intention of sleeping right now. He could only think of what nightmares haunted her. The trauma of their . . . technically second meeting, was enough to scar anyone. But she had been through so much more than that.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ And it pained him to know that she had, to know that she carried the weight that came with all the horrific events she had endured in her life. "I am sorry, for the pain you feel from it." From her nightmares, from whatever plagued her sleep. How he wished he could rid her of them and have it so that left only, was the peace and comfort that sleep was meant to provide. "You are safe," he added in a soft whisper, placing another light kiss on her cheek, feeling the need to reassure her of that.

I'm not bound by Now aware of the existence of these parties . . . Benedict wondered what ever he did before them. It felt like the first place he could truly breathe among company where he was not required to fit into societal expectations. Nor be suffocating by the pressures that came with it. Being around such a crowd of people, class did not matter. Social rank was irrelevant. Here, they were all of a similar mind; they all sought good company and fun. And it was what brought Benedict to it today. He intended to practice his drawing skills. Perhaps the day would come where he would actually be satisfied -- even minimally -- with something that he had produced.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ But it was as Henry had told him the first time he had come to his studio: there was no judgment here. And that was something that Benedict was certainly taking advantage of. After having had a couple of drinks, and conversing for a bit . . . he entered the artist room, and set himself up at his easel, looking at the rather beautiful figure before him, taking her in so that he could relay it onto paper. He was not so green than he was aroused at the sight of a nude woman -- far from it -- but that did not mean he was not one who failed to appreciate the beauty of one either.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ Taking the charcoal in hand, he started lightly creating the outline frame of her body, eyes moving between her and the paper. But when she spoke, she captured his attention in another one. "Sometimes I feel not often enough," he told her truthfully with a smile. It was truly a wonder, how he never failed to feel so relaxed here. And he had not even smoked anything yet. This would be the first time he saw her here, which did not necessary mean it was her first time. In fact, he was assuming it was not considering how . . . comfortably she was posing. "Are you in attendance often?" Perhaps, they had just not crossed paths before. There were after all, quite a few that came to these events.

I'm not bound by Though Benedict did not draw attention to it, he did not fail to notice the reactions from her sisters. It was a shame indeed, that there was such ingrained competition between them. Though, Benedict knew it was entirely unnecessary in this case . . . it was always a shame to see anyone react to someone approaching Penelope with surprise. As if it was not possible.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ Though it was his mother who encouraged him to be in the company of those that many did not approach . . . the Bridgertons certainly had a soft spot for Penelope Featherington. Which, only made Benedict feel all the more guilty for his treatment of her that night. Thank goodness Colin had been there. In fact, perhaps it was better Colin than Benedict, considering how Penelope felt about him. Benedict smile as he looked at her mother who seemed a bit too excited. "I shan't take her far," he assured her. He would still to the common path and not stray out of his family nor her family's sight. When Penelope was ready, Benedict gave a nod and began to move alongside her onto the path that extended in the middle of the park.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ Truth was, it was rather comfortable to be in Penelope's presence. She was not one that he needed to worry about leading on, or someone who would get the wrong idea. The last thing he wished to do, was to lead someone to believe that he was courting them or that there was any chance of a proposal. Fortunately, he and Penelope need not worry about that ever happening. After all . . . he now knew that he was not the Bridgerton that she desired. "How has your day been so far?" He asked, genuinely wondering how she was doing now that they were out of earshot from her mother and sister's.

Benedict will probably spend most of the time subtly dodging eager Mamas and young ladies seeking to find a husband! Therefore, Benedict will be escaping on many a hikes, and -- like Anthony -- is offering to take others on tours of Kent, throughout the Estate, and so on! He's willing to help his brother referee and teach those who wish to learn various activities. Benedict really is just going to try to make himself as scarce as a host probably can be when it comes to grand events and competitive games even though he will of course have to be present during the different events throughout the week. There are after all, advantages of being the second son!
