It was one of those moments where Elizabeth had to recognize that her upbringing was likely vastly different than that of Philipa's. Her own parents had been lovely, warm, and caring. Until her mother's passing, Margaret had been incredibly present in the lives of her children and their upbringing. She was someone Elizabeth could rely on and she knew her mother loved her deeply. There was never any pressure to conform to society's expectations, but rather explained why these were the expectations and why it might be important. But the pressure to marry someone well had never been pressed upon her and she found herself believing that all might not be the case for Philipa.
She had to agree that Anthony had his moments of humor, but Elizabeth did not spend a lot of time with him to see them these days. Her memories of such things were prior to the passing of Edmund but she'd always hoped that the old Anthony was hidden away in there. "He cares deeply to take care of his family and to ensure he is upholding his duties," Elizabeth pointed out. None of which, were bad things in the least. Elizabeth found herself chuckling at the mention of Philipa's mother loving the idea of marrying one of her daughters into the Bridgerton family. It seemed to be a common desire amongst the mamas of the Ton. "I'm sure she would." Then the question of who Lizzie might be fond of arose and she found herself hesitating. It was not that she did not trust Philipa, but she supposed she did not know her rather well and did not know if the information could be repeated. Her fondness for Jeremy was not being talked about and she wanted it to stay that way, as she knew Jeremy preferred his privacy. "No one here tonight," she spoke, a twinkle of mischief in her eye for a moment.

So long as he appeared to understand that she was only jesting, Elizabeth found that she was calmer in her disposition. They had come so far in their relationship and she hoped they knew one another well enough to be able to jest and not take one another seriously in such cases. But she was not naive to believe that things were so casual between them that she was incapable of saying something that might truly offend him. Elizabeth just had to continue to hope that she would not say anything to do that, as she quite enjoyed their banter and whatever was forming between them.
Elizabeth found herself quite surprised that William had decided to agree to her terms, even going so far as to say the things he did. She found herself giggling at his mention of the men commenting on who had the nicest bosom. Perhaps these were the sort of things she had been expecting. Things that men talked about that were not surprising, but perhaps scandalous if spoken about in front of ladies. "In other words, just men being men," she mused, giving him a pointed look. "Nothing I am overly surprised of." Because no matter how prim and proper these gentlemen claimed to be, at heart, they were still men. "Well, fair is fair. Go on then, ask me whatever you wish. I shall be equally honest." Elizabeth wondered if he would ask about what ladies spoke of or something else entirely.

She was quite uncertain what was happening to Jeremy but she knew that it was not good. She knew that it was likely difficult for him but all she could do was be there for him. Elizabeth wondered if it was panic over something that had taken place inside or if it was something else. One thing was for certain; her questions would have to wait until she knew he was okay. That was the only thing that mattered to Elizabeth in that moment. Her patience, which was normally thinly veiled for people, was prepared to help Jeremy through this if he would let her.
His eyes squeezed shut and Elizabeth tried to figure out if her speaking with him was helpful or hurtful. There were many things she knew how to comfort someone in but this was not one of them. One thing could be the wrong move so for the moment, she decided upon silence. A small moment passed and Jeremy took her hand, Elizabeth feeling what he was trying to convey through such an action. That maybe he did want her there and that she was being helpful. Elizabeth squeezed onto his hand and continued to stand by his side, not caring how long it might take. His eyes finally opened and Elizabeth noted the tears that pricked at the corners, threatening to fall and she could see that he was panicking. It didn't matter, not one bit, what he was panicking about. All that mattered was that she was going to be there to help him.
"Jeremy," she spoke softly, her other hand that was not being held by his, reaching out and brushing her thumb across his cheek. "It's going to be alright. Just listen to my voice, okay? We'll get through this and everything will be alright. Count with me if you can, alright? Nine, seven, five, three, one." Elizabeth just had to hope that speaking with him was helpful and not hurtful.

It was a rude wake up call, but one Elizabeth likely needed in this situation. She very well could not talk herself out of this one. These men were not the ones she could scare away with a bold statement or a glare. They were dangerous and she knew she had to re-think absolutely everything. They could very well kill her without thinking twice about it. There were no consequences for men like this. They were not people Elizabeth had ever dealt with before and she didn't know how to navigate these waters. Doing what he said went against everything in her body but if she wished to live and see her family another day then she knew she would have to bite back her desire to step on their feet and throw sarcastic remarks their way.
Without wasting time, Elizabeth came face to face with a pistol pointed at her. There was suddenly no doubt in her mind that this man would kill her for the simple pleasure of doing such a thing. Elizabeth knew she should have dropped to her knees in such a situation but she simply could not make herself do such a thing. Instead, she gained her composure and got rid of any insistence in her tone. "I have coin on me now and . . . my father is a Marquess. He will pay for my safe return," she spoke slowly. Gone was the attitude this man seemed to hate so much and Elizabeth had to hope that money was all they wanted.

Elizabeth sighed and rolled her eyes. "I am only teasing," she assured him. Perhaps William was sensitive about her constant teasing about him wanting a dutiful wife or maybe she had read him incorrectly. Either way, Elizabeth did not mean to offend him. She simply wished they could continue to tease one another. "That is ideal," Elizabeth agreed. There were many husbands that only fulfilled certain duties, to accomplish the bear minimum with their wives. Then they ran off to spend time with courtesans and other women, only to leave their wives at home. Elizabeth pondered if William would stray from his marriage, but found she did not have the courage to ask him such a bold question.
To have William much closer to her and to feel his breath against her ear sent a small shiver down her spine. She grinned while trying to also gain her composure from the moment. William Slade should not be having such an effect on her, especially not while they were alone. "Of course," she assured him. "You forget I have two older brothers." Not that they spoke of such things in front of her but there were certainly things she overheard them speak of. "Do tell, I am quite intrigued. And perhaps in exchange I will answer any question of yours," Elizabeth said with a smirk. It should appear to be a tempting offer.

She did not understand how things could happen so quickly. There was too much commotion for Elizabeth to discern what had taken place. Truthfully, she did not care to. All she knew was that one moment she had been heading towards her carriage and the next, someone had grabbed her. Her hands bound and a bag placed over her head, not that she allowed that to make her complacent. If someone was going to try to kidnap her then she was surely going to put up a fight. But one of the hooligans had given her a swift punch to the gut to get her to settle down. Elizabeth had complied for the time being, trying to figure everything out in her mind. If she was going to get out of this, she knew she had to be smarter. From the conversation she could hear them happening, surely that wouldn't be too difficult.
Elizabeth's shoes hit wood and the sound of the ocean made her think she was on a boat. This was not good. If she was transported elsewhere, her chances of getting home were slim. She heard the men call for their captain and finally the bag was pulled from her head. Elizabeth took a moment to look around, taking in her environment before turning her attention on their so-called Captain. "We got ourselves a Noble Lady!" One of them said, sounding quite excited. Elizabeth scoffed and slammed down her foot on his in an attempt to get him to let go. Elizabeth had to toy between the idea of offering money for her release or claiming she was not a Noble. "Let me go! If you return me this instance then I shall not press charges," she said, not that she expected them to let her go. Turning to the Captain, Elizabeth got the indication that he had no clue this was meant to happen. His confusion, or displeasure, were palpable. "What is the meaning of this?" Elizabeth insisted.

"Isn't it?" She asked with a teasing smile. "A dutiful wife would never be off doing something when her husband might need her at any given moment." It made her think back to their conversation when she'd rattled off about what she thought he wanted in a wife. Someone that did as they were told and were the perfect image of what a wife should be. To hear that he didn't speak to his sisters made Elizabeth frown, curious as to why he did not seem to have a great relationship with them. Though, Elizabeth could hardly complain. Her relationship with her brother Noah was not the best.
"I do not believe you," Elizabeth insisted. "You gossip like lunching mamas, I'm sure of it." Not that she could be certain. Elizabeth had no proper source to confirm these suspicions. Still, William seemed to be awfully sure they didn't gossip which made her believe they must!

To hear his response to Elizabeth touching him there, even through his trousers, was enough to encourage her. She was careful with her movements but pawed at him through his pants, wanting to hear the noises from him that he had been getting from her. The vibrations of his groans moving through her mouth as their lips remained connected. It wasn't until Anthony's hands both moved away from their current locations, causing Elizabeth to whine at the loss of contact, that he whirled her around to face him so her back was no longer pressed against his body. Their lips connected again and Elizabeth wrapped an arm around his shoulders to pull him closer, pressing the front of her body against his.
Pushing herself against him, Elizabeth shivered at the feeling of her breasts against his shirt. What was more, was the feeling of his hardened manhood pressing against where his fingers had been working some sort of magic. Elizabeth moved her hips slightly against him, finding that it relieved some of the pressure but was not doing nearly as much as she desired it to do. His lips moved from her mouth, down her neck and across her chest. Elizabeth's head fell back when his mouth wrapped around her chest. The arm that had been around his shoulder fell slightly, instead her fingers gripped themselves into his hair. His tongue and teeth teased her in ways she did not think possible and Elizabeth found herself unable to hold back the noises that were falling from her lips.
Anthony gripped at her behind and she could feel him pulling at the fabric of her dress. Elizabeth did what she could to help, pulling the fabric up as well, holding it around her waist so that she was nearly completely exposed to him. Except for the fabric around her waist and her bloomers, Elizabeth was vulnerable to Anthony completely. "You are wearing entirely too much clothes," Elizabeth mused, somehow, through the haze that Anthony was putting her through. With one of her hands holding the fabric of her dress around her waist, she tried to reach out and push at his breeches, wanting nothing more than to feel his skin pressed against hers.

His movements paused elsewhere as Elizabeth felt himself focus on the kiss. Their lips moved together in unison and Elizabeth felt like this was the person she was meant to be kissing. Knowing that Anthony would be her future was thrilling in its own sense. It was a wonderful first kiss, though not entirely how she had imagined it being. Truthfully, Elizabeth had imagined her first kiss being on her wedding day but things with Anthony seemed to be speeding up ahead of schedule. It was not something she wished to complain about. In Elizabeth's mind, so long as it was with her future husband she did not see what the fuss was all about. Their lips connected again and Elizabeth felt like Anthony was pouring more emotion into it this time. This time, she could feel how much he wanted her and she wanted him in return. Elizabeth might not have the experience with kissing that Anthony did, but she did not let it deter her from pouring her own feelings into the kiss.
Her entire body was pushed back into Anthony's at his own doing and she let out a small gasp at the feeling. Elizabeth did not fully understand it but without thinking, she reached one of her hands behind her and pressed it against where he was uncommonly hard. If it felt good for him to press against her there, then surely the same could be said for him? Her dress fell to her waist, revealing her bare to him and she wasn't the least bit embarrassed. Anthony's hands were quick to find purchase on one of her breasts, making her gasp out at the contact.
To hear that he must have her nearly sent her over the edge. She already felt like she was dangling there but to hear those words? Elizabeth pulled away from the kiss for a moment. "You already have me, so take me," she said to him. The dampness between her legs becoming more evident to Elizabeth as Anthony's fingers moved, still not breaking the surface of the fabric. God, she wished he would just touch her everywhere without their clothes in the way.

"Oh well, when ladies are not attending balls then we simply sit and do nothing. Did you not know we exist only to please our future husbands?" Elizabeth teased him with a chuckle. "Sometimes there are lunch events or we are invited to tea," she said more seriously this time. "I prefer to avoid those if possible and spend my time reading or playing music." Her instrument of choice lately had been the piano, which was by far her favorite. It was the one she always went back to.
Her arm looped through his as the two walked down the path. Their bodies slightly closer than they needed to be, but she found that she did not mind. His nickname for her was mentioned again and a small smile played on her lips. "No one has ever called me that before," she said. "It's lovely." Elizabeth wanted to make sure he knew that she did not mind being called Lilibet. She sighed at his question. "It does not matter," she answered. "I'm sure it is all about gambling and women. I feel as if men might gossip as much as we do." Though Elizabeth was not one to partake in the gossip often. She preferred to listen and roll her eyes when people weren't watching.

His lips trailed along her skin, leaving behind a cool sensation that burned against her flesh. How could her entire body be on fire for this man? This man that she had balked at when he proposed the idea of marriage. And now, Elizabeth found herself in a position that was inappropriate and one she was not eager to have end. Elizabeth might not know much about the things that happened between a man and a woman, but she knew one thing; this was desire and this was passion.
Anthony's hand nestled between her legs and she felt an involuntary gasp leave her lips. It was quite clear that was where she had been begging him to touch her all along. The small amount of friction he provided was enough to drive her insane, and Elizabeth felt herself move slightly against his hand, wanting more friction than he was providing. What was happening between her legs and in the depths of her abdomen was not something she understood but she didn't care; she didn't have to. All she needed was for Anthony to not stop because she needed him in every way.
His mouth grew closer to hers and Elizabeth tilted her head towards him so that their lips might touch. But he did not close the distance and Elizabeth found herself incredibly frustrated by the lack of contact. There was nothing saying she could not have some control in this, right? Without waiting for Anthony, Elizabeth pushed herself closer and pressed their lips together in a kiss. His lips were as soft as she had imagined and she found them entirely intoxicating. Hearing that he needed more of her only made Elizabeth melt even more. This sensation deep within her building as she felt him continue to press against her core and Elizabeth was not willing to let that feeling go. "I am yours, entirely," she breathed. She felt the laces on her dress loosen so all it would take was for him to push the gown down to have her exposed to him. Elizabeth did not want him to stop so she feared moving but all she wanted to do was turn around so she could keep kissing him and pressing herself against him.

Not once had Elizabeth ever found herself eager for her wedding night, but now she wasn't so sure. Whatever was transpiring between her and Anthony had her wanting more of quite literally, everything. More of him and more of whatever this was. Time would not be kind to this stolen moment they were hiding within but Elizabeth did not let those thoughts linger within her mind.
To hear Anthony say that he desired her and that she was desirable was enough to nearly send a quiver throughout her entire body. Elizabeth could not stop thinking about how wonderful he was making her feel and how much she wished it would not stop. She did not know exactly where this was going but she did not care. They wanted one another and that was all that mattered. His lips continued to press to her neck and she felt his tongue press against the skin there, causing a shallow breath to be released from her.
Having Anthony touch her in places no one had ever touched her before was tantalizing and she never wanted him to stop touching her. Elizabeth found herself fantasizing about how this would all feel if there were no clothes between them. Would it be as delicious as it was now or would it be even better? She could not imagine a feeling more wonderful than this. His hands inched lower down her body, past her stomach and further to where she truly considered to be her most intimate spot. Anthony was speaking but Elizabeth could hardly understand the words he was saying. How was she meant to be coherent when he was doing something like this to her? His lips moved to her shoulder and Elizabeth felt her head tilt back so it rested on his shoulder, her body leaning into his and feeling like a mess from his mere touch. "Anthony, I . . ." She what? Elizabeth could not figure out what he'd asked or how she felt. How did it all feel? That was what he asked, right? "I don't want you to stop," Elizabeth said through a soft moan.

Elizabeth had never wanted someone as close to her as she did Anthony. There was never anything even close to this that she had felt for another and part of it scared her while the other part of it she found quite thrilling. The thoughts about indecency were long dismissed from her mind, the excuse that they were, after all, engaged, was all she needed to tell herself. They were to be married and therefore, all of this was okay as far as Elizabeth was concerned. No one else would agree with her, except for perhaps an eager Anthony, but it did not matter to her. Elizabeth had not agreed with the societal expectations prior to this and she did not plan to start now.
His lips continued to press against the tender skin of her neck. She felt like her face was flush and she knew it was due to Anthony and the things he was doing. Elizabeth knew of desire. She'd spoken with her ladies maid about desire and knew what happened between a man and his wife once they were married. But Elizabeth was not an idiot and had come to realize that sometimes these things happened before one was married. Desire and passion, often driving factors in these acts. "Yes," she answered softly. The feelings of his lips on her neck were a distraction from his questions, though she guessed he was not terribly upset if she failed to answer them. Elizabeth had never been desired or felt desire as far as she knew. Certainly those were both things she would be aware of if she were to feel them.
His hand continued to move along her skin, leaving a trail of fire in its wake. Everything felt like she was on fire for Anthony and she did not want it to stop. His hand slowly passed over her breast over her dress and she made no move to stop him. Elizabeth did not want him to stop. "Do you desire me?" She asked. Had she not been so hazy with passion for Anthony in that moment, surely she would have been embarrassed to ask such a thing. Elizabeth was a bold woman but this was something else entirely.

She did not know how much time had passed since she made her way into the library. Elizabeth was too caught up in the words on the page to hear Anthony move down the hall and even enter the library. The light from his own candle seeping into the room, as did his words. Elizabeth jumped a little, not expecting his presence. Glancing at the candle on the table, she noted that not nearly enough time had passed and Elizabeth feared she had woken him when retreating from their bed. "I'm fine," she assured him. "I just haven't been able to fall asleep." Had she ever fallen asleep in the first place? She was sure that her eyes had closed but sleep had evaded her for the entire evening. It was not a common occurrence for her, but it was not something she had never experienced either. Usually there was a cause for her inability to shut off her mind but tonight, she did not believe that to be the case.
"I'm sorry, did I wake you?" Elizabeth asked, closing her book and placing it down. She frowned slightly at the idea. She'd believed Anthony to be sleeping so peacefully and had not wanted to wake him. The whole reason she had left their room was so that he could continue to rest in peace. But clearly that would not be the case and Elizabeth felt guilty for waking him up. Rising from her seat on the chair, Elizabeth blew out her candle before crossing the room to Anthony. She reached up and brushed some of his hair from his forehead. "I'm alright, I promise. My mind seems to have other ideas for the evening," she said with a sigh.
