TAG: @kitty i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS Vaughn's irrational and unpredictable anger did indeed get the best of him at times. Which, was not always a good thing considering his status as a fugitive. Any man still engaging in piracy was considered as such. But that would hardly deter the captain. It only fueled his hatred for those who used men like him when convenient, to make them rich and flood them with wealth . . . only to now toss them aside like cattle. Dispose of them, as if they were nothing. As if they did nothing.
So when he began to engage in a nobleman, things had escalated. Words were exchanged, and the crowd at the bar had built. He hadn't killed the man, but Vaughn had brutally attacked him enough to cover himself with blood. Unfortunately, someone had called for the Bow Street Runners and they attempted to restrain him. Resulting in Vaughn's own injuries. He was fortunate to make an escape -- something he was quite accustomed to -- but not as speedily as he would have liked. He had to slow to a halt, barley conscious before a woman came to his aid. He had managed to outrun the fools, but he knew he would have to play a part if he was to avoid her turning him in. He would have to do something completely against his very nature: be kind.
Mneeting her eyes to attempt to build a connection with her -- to his advantage -- and not even certain if it would work, he responded to her statement. "It is not a story meant for a lady's ears," he told her. He hated speaking words that oozed such consideration and care for another. Especially as she too was a noblewoman. No better than the rest, and how he loathed them. How he hated them. She was no exception to his sweeping generalization of all nobles and royals . . . despite the fact that she was actually helping him. "What is your name? So that I may know the woman who helped me, and aim to repay my debt to her." Mainly, he wished to know so that he could learn more of her. Find out who she was, and whether this situation could be swayed to his advantage somehow. More, advantageous than the simple fact that she was aiding him.

TAG: @tab i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS Letting his question linger in the air for a few moments, he slowly lowered his hand from her mouth, prepared to cover it again should she start screaming. Instead, she agreed to his words to not scream, and spoke of her children. Questioning what he wanted. Ah children. It was so much easier to threaten a person who had children or a spouse. Well, a spouse that one actually liked. When one had so many they loved in this world . . . they had so much more to lose. And were willing to do anything to prevent that from happening.
"Ah, your children," he repeated, as if in thought over this revelation. "It would be a damn shame if something were to happen to them." He was here really for her, but . . . why not sweeten the deal a little. "How much would you say their lives are worth to you?" He asked, still not moving from his position of the blade by her cheek and his body right behind her. It would allow him to quickly react should she try to make a run for it . . . or try to scream. He had to be prepared for anything. A desperate woman was sometimes a foolish one. But, she seemed to have enough sense to cooperate. Hopefully, her intelligence would continue to be seen.

i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS Vaughn smirked as she seated herself comfortably on him, speaking of just how convenient it was that his lap was ready for her. "Much like finding you here." She was either seeking him out for something or -- well who gave a damn anyway. She was good company and one of the more beautiful ones. So he would accept and allow it.
Letting out a slight groan at the sensation of her hips rubbing against him, his hand went to the back of her head, his fingers weaving through her hair, as if to keep her in place. "I'm in no mood for a tease," he told her bluntly, with a continued smirk upon his features. "So you either talk, or we'll find other ways to occupy that mouth of yours." Because it had been a long while, and Keya had already thrown the bar maid to the side that he had been working on. So, she had better give him something. Or he would become rather displeased.

i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS Vaughn knew and expected that he would have to put in some work with this one. What he was not expecting, was her to so easily agree and then . . . take his arm. He nearly paused at the surprise, though knew it would blow his cover and destroy his attempt to lure her. Perhaps this one was daft and naïve. Either way, Vaughn had no complaints for it brought his plan closer than anticipated to fruition. "Oh I think you could be of tremendous help." She was making this too easy.
Vaughn had to wonder for a moment if he was being set up. If his plan to set them up, was in turn, setting him up. He casually glanced behind them to ensure they weren't being followed. This was too easy indeed . . . and too good to be true. "Are they now?" He asked with exaggerated surprise. "Now what reason could these fools have to be cross with a lovely, kind woman such as yourself?" Kind words were against his nature. But . . . playing a part to gain advantage and to deceit, was far more in character for him. This was no exception. She had made it this easy thus far. All he need do is distract her for a little bit longer until they got to his ship . . . and there was no turning back.

TAG: @tab i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS mini scenario generator selected Vaughn gets a contract to assassinate Tabitha.
Contrary to popular -- or those who knew of him -- belief . . . Vaughn was not a complete idiot. He had his moments, to be sure, but he was not as imbecilic as one may make him out to be. How else could one evade capture for so long? He was a pirate; wanted by the crown and authorities and yet, was still of this world. Unlike many others who had once held such a title and were now hanged for it. So when Vaughn was given a job, he knew he had to think this through. One of Slade's rivals -- or a man who owed him a great deal of debt -- wished to hire Vaughn to kill his sister to . . . perhaps send a message. Truth be told, Vaughn did not care about the details. So while he accepted the job, he would much rather consider his options. It was not morals or conscience that caused hesitation but rather . . . intelligence. Should he kill her, it may upset Slade and cost Vaughn business. For there was always the possibility he would track him down. But . . . if he did kill her, he would make coin quickly. Or he could perhaps exchange this information for more coin and thus, out one of his enemies.
Decisions decisions, and Vaughn had not reached any by the time he arrived at her husband's estate. Lurking in the shadows for so long certainly had its advantages for he was able to slip through without being scene, and weasel his way into their estate. A rather, lavish one at that. Vaughn wandered down the hall, poking in each room where the door was open. Risky perhaps, but it was his patience that caused him to take more drastic actions. He took hold of one of the servants and forced information out of him before leaving him unconscious in a storage room. Arriving at the room that was said to be hers, Vaughn saw it was open and decided to wait there. And, make himself at home. He slouched comfortably in one of the chairs, leaning back and propping his feet up on the footrest. Fucking nobles and their extravagance.
Unsure of how much time had passed, he finally heard footsteps and scurried to move behind the door. He hoped she was alone. It would be a pity if he had to kill her husband too. When she stepped inside the room, Vaughn acted quickly, emerging from his position behind the door, placing a hand over her mouth, and using his foot to kick the door shut. "Do not scream," he warned her. Taking out a dagger, he ran the edge of it against the fair skin of her cheek. Not enough to cut it, but enough to make a point. He held her against him, her back pressed against his chest and one hand having a firm grip on her mouth, the other, upon the dagger that he toyed with. "Are you going to behave?" He asked, a taunt in his voice but one that was sinister too, speaking closer to her ear. Apparently, he had made the decision not to kill her right away and instead . . . have a little conversation -- for now.

TAG: @mei i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS random number generator selected 26. My muse is temporarily blind.
This deal had not gone well. Vaughn had brought Slade his latest shipment and as always, he was waiting at the docks. The man was not always present, sending his minions in his stead so Vaughn just -- impatiently -- waited to see who it would be today. Ciaran was a possibility. Mei would be a pleasure. And as the other names ran through his mind, he saw approaching figures. Luckily enough, it was Mei. Which, he certainly did not mind at all. He had been on his ship for some time, so the company of a woman was quite . . . desirable. Even one as . . . lacking in femininity. With a smirk playing on his features, he stepped out of the shadows, though still camouflaged in the darkness being clad in a long black coat, black boots and a black hat.
He was about to make a comment regarding it was about time they show up, when a group of men came out of no where and ambushed them. Vaughn pulled out his handgun and started shooting at them, stepping backwards to get back on his ship and yelling for his crew to ready it. He moved closer to who he had previously identified as Mei, expecting her to do her job and rid of these hoodlums. Before he could get remotely close to his ship however, someone threw a liquid onto his eyes that caused them to burn. Screaming, he place one hand over his eyes, shooting into the air at nothing and not caring it if hit either the attackers side or Slade's. Clearly, Vaughn was irrational. "Fucking do your duty and kill them!" He yelled out at her, firing a couple more times into the air and hoping he killed someone in the process.

i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS The more she spoke, the worse it got. For it reinforced his hatred for those of upper rank. The way they staked claim over whatever they desired, claiming possession of it as if it was their right . . . showcasing their entitlement. It was also why, Vaughn thrived on taking over their ships. To prove, that their ranks, their titles, meant nothing to him. Yet on the ground, here . . . it was a constant reminder of how people bowed to their every whim. And to see a woman that he had once actually thought strong and capable succumb to the control of it . . . was disappointing to say the least. In fact, it was quite revolting.
"No, I never claimed you," Vaughn stated with continued amusement for truly, it was quite comical to know that her of all people . . . had sold her soul to a man. He had never wanted to claim her really. Commitment in such regards with women was after all, not something Vaughn was interested in. "But he has." Whoever this high ranking man was.
"I had more respect for you when you were a whore. At least then you were your own woman." Now, she was not. She was bought, owned by an entitled bastard who held control over her. Disappointing indeed. He rose to his feet, a mocking gleam in his eyes at what she had done. "Fucking shameful, that I ever kept such company." That he had thought she was independent enough to not let any man lay claim to her. But as he had previously said, she was bought and evidently, had no intention of doing anything to upset her master.

TAG: @pegslade i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS Fucking nobles. He was in a nobleman's estate. He listened to her explain that he was in her home, her family's home. Which one that would be, he did not yet know. But it didn't matter. All fucking nobles were the same. Her taking pity on him did not exempt them all. And yet . . . he also knew that he would be forced to be on his best behavior. He was in no state to make a run for it right now, nor to even move if the pain he was experiencing was anything to go by. But Vaughn, being on his best behavior was not always an easy thing. No, it was never an easy thing. But when faced with the need to survive, sometimes it was what one would have to do.
"No, no," he assured quickly when she suggested getting a practitioner to question his state. "I was, in a bar fight." Not a complete lie. He attempted to shift a little in the bed as if to test his strength, but regretted it when pain shot through his body, so eased his shoulders once more. Looking at her, he gave a small smile. "Too much drink. Too much pride. It was but a foolish matter." That, resulted in this. Details best left unsaid. His main objective was that she not call for anyone to investigate the incident. When she finished wrapping the bandage, introducing her name his half smile remained. "A beautiful name, well suited for it's owner." Fucking nobles.
But if there was one thing Vaughn could easily admit: they were not bad to look at at all. Besides, his attempt to distract her from the details of it all were in full force. "But is that not too bold of me?" Surely she knew by now, from his attire alone that he was no nobleman. While he truly despised formalities as it demanded undeserved respect, it was also his way of subtly prying as to which family this woman belonged to with a surname and not just knowing her Christian name. "I should like to one day properly thank my heroine, once able to do so," he added on, in attempt to be charming towards her. It was a fucking relief, that no one from his crew were around to witness his charade. He doubted he would ever hear the end of it.

TAG: @pegslade i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS Faint footsteps was the last thing Vaughn heard before his attempt to remain conscious was to no avail, and he slipped into the darkness that succumbed him. He remained as such when he was carried into a carriage, for the duration of the carriage ride, and even when brought into the house. It was not until he felt a wet sensation upon his forehead, that he began to slip from the all consuming darkness . . . slowly being brought back into the conscious world. The damp feeling upon his skin, made him initially think he was in the water; perhaps fallen overboard, perhaps swimming, perhaps in a storm.
It was after all, not uncommon for that of a sailor. But hazily, he began to open his eyes. And his senses were starting to kick in. He was lying on something far too soft to be that of the bed in his Captain's quarters. Or an inn. The air did not hold the smell of the streets or the abundance of drink. He caught the scent of a, perfume. Nor were there boisterous sounds to be heard to fill his surroundings. It was quiet. He heard an unfamiliar voice assuring him that he was safe . . . which was hardly comforting considering his life of crime. Looking at the woman through heavily lidded eyes, his vision was slowly starting to clear. His voice slightly groggy and gruff, he parted his lips to speak. "Where am I?" He questioned, needing to gain his bearings so that he knew whether he could actually find any ease in her words. For there was not many places at all, where he was safe.

TAG: @francescab i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS Vaughn's amusement only grew when she continued to scold him, telling him that he didn't know a thing about her. She ushered him elsewhere and he half expected her to take him to the Bow Street Runners but . . . for what crime. Because he spoke out of turn? It would hardly surprise him that a noble thought themselves so high that anyone who put them in their place, was subject to punishment. And so, he was prepared for it. Braced for it really. But, he could most certainly handle himself.
However, instead of calling someone else's attention to their interactions, she further placed them in a circumstance where they were alone. His second guess, was that she was going to hit him. And the same smirk would remain upon his face for it meant, he had truly provoked her to such a point of letting it all out. But her outlet was not that of violence, for instead of anything that he had considered . . . she instead grabbed him, and kissed him. Vaughn's lips curled into a smile as they moved against hers, his chuckling causing a vibration through the kiss. He moved forward, causing her to move back until she was against the trunk of a tree that had been close to their position of isolation. "There she is," he said in a low voice speaking against her lips, referring to of course, that woman within; unleashed, unguarded, and clearing, uncaring of appearances.

TAG: @mariannetalbot i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS Identifying herself as Marianne, her husband a Duke and further assurance that her family would come for him . . . not to mention the insulting remarks of questioning his intelligence. Not having been around many ladies and of course, her speaking as if she was in control. The entitled attitude of nobles was not something that was suddenly erased, despite their circumstances. Entitled practically ingrained into their very soul. Hearing her yell at him and make demands, abruptly shifted Vaughn from amusement, to annoyance. He swiftly pulled out his pistol, firing two bullets directly in front of her, missing her feet by a barley an inch. And that, was the intention. His expression and mood having altered with the same abruptness as he looked at her, unamused and serious.
"And if you are smart . . . " He began to say, still holding the pistol in his hand. "You will cease your fucking demanding tongue!" He did not care who she was, or what type of respect she demanded from others. Here, she would get none from him. The unpredictability in his mood and demeanour was not a rarity, but as it was without pattern, even his crewmen would not question it. "Now," he continued, his tone having gone from the menacing voice to a more causal one as he stepped closer towards her. "Define being paid well," he stated. "What do you believe your life is worth?" Nothing to him; but certainly, everything to a Duke. Unless he wanted to get rid of her which, would make this entire inconvenience rather disappointing.

i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS random number generator selected 44. Our muses on the run together.
Vaughn had disembarked his ship, using the row boat to reach the dock and set on land. His men would wait for his signal when it was safe to properly dock. One could never be too careful after all. He looked around, the darkness of the night allowing him to remain even more inconspicuous in his black attire. He could see Ciaran in the distance approaching, the man that Vaughn tended to do business with as this task was delegated to him. When he was not too far, Vaughn took a few steps to ease the distance when all of a sudden, an unfamiliar sound broke the otherwise silent air. "DO NOT MOVE!" Vaughn spun around to see a small group of men reveal themselves. Bow Street Runners! The pirate raced forward, towards the path that Ciaran came from. "Fucking run!" It was not a warning made out of consideration but, Vaughn's hatred for the Bow Street Runners made him wish for them to be unsuccessful in their attempt to apprehend him.
Vaughn ducked when he could hear pistols going off, ensuring his path was not straight so that it would be difficult to aim. Fortunately, they seemed to have the favor of distance on them, so by the time they reached the city, though it was abandoned, they seemed to find an open small building which could offer them temporary concealment. Hurrying inside, Vaughn closed the door behind him and remained close to it, now looking at Ciaran. "Bastards," he breathed, quiet enough to not be heard, but with how close he and Ciaran were . . . most likely heard by him. When he heard the racing footsteps pass where they were hiding, Vaughn continued, keeping his voice low so not to be heard. "Fucking good job providing safe docking," he quipped sarcastically, meant of course to insult. After all, it was not as if he and Ciaran were dear friends.

i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS random number generator selected 16. My muse is kidnapped and yours has just rescued them.
Considering the illegal activities Vaughn tended to engage in -- practically his entire existence -- it was no surprise that it would indeed catch up to him. If not at sea where he enjoyed his life of piracy, then most certainly on land where he enjoyed . . . less, but drink and women. The two main perks of being on the ground. That, and he of course had business to conduct with the supplies he brought in, and crewmen he need recruit. This time however, he had been apprehended by one that was, perhaps not so impressed with his unwillingness to cooperate. It did not take long to discover Vaughn's dislike -- to say the least -- for authority to being told what to do, when to do it, how to do it, only set the man off.
Currently, he was tied up, staring at the men who seemed to be mulling over what to do with him. From what he could gather, they were a rival gang of Slade's and wanted details and ownership of what Vaughn brought in, the value of it all or information about the crime lord. It was not loyalty that dissuaded Vaughn from giving anything away, it was the fact that he did not want to share his profit. Even if it may very well cost him his life. They seemed as if they were deciding what to do with him; use him as bait, kill him, turn him in to the Bow Street Runners. Vaughn had even offered his own suggestions, but his incessant talking was met with being struck. When they realized that would not shut him up . . . they tied a cloth around his mouth. His words now incoherent for the most part, but the man at least tried to enunciate words to indicate his displeasure and of course, any insults he could offer.
Blazing guns caught the interest as the men rushed upstairs. Vaughn watched his surroundings, trying to wriggle free from his hands being tied up. He was in the lower level of some fucking place, and he could only look up at the boards on the upper floor, the thuds of what he presumed to be bodies falling to the ground, residue from the material that held the level up falling onto Vaughn's face. His blinked it away, shaking his head a little as he could hear heavy footsteps and muffled noises. His eyes followed the shadow of the feet, as it was heading towards the stairwell that would descend to where he was. And when he saw the source of them, the Captain smiled, regardless of the cloth that hindered him. For it was none other, than Slade's right hand dog. This, was fucking perfect.
